Man hit by taxi in Liverpool after 'fall' critically hurt

A 49-year-old man who was struck by a passing taxi in Liverpool city centre after a suspected fall is in a critical condition in hospital.

Police believe the man, from Speke, fell and collided with the vehicle at the corner of Matthew Street and North John Street in the early hours.

The taxi driver gave first aid to the man before an ambulance arrived and the police were called at 0400 BST.

Merseyside police have asked anyone with any information to contact them.
