Wirral man, 19, dies after falling from Liverpool flat
A man has died after falling from an apartment block in Liverpool city centre during a party.
The 19-year-old, from Wirral, suffered serious injuries when he fell from a ledge into Victoria Street at about 01:00 BST.
He was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital but died soon afterwards.
Police said they believed he had gone on to the ledge with friends who were smoking and had fallen.
The area around the junction of Victoria Street and Progress Lane was cordoned off for forensic examination.
'Treating as unexplained'
The cordon has now been lifted. Police are continuing to speak to witnesses at the party.
Det Insp Paul Mann, of Merseyside Police, said: "We are in the process of collecting statements from everyone at the party with a view to handing our file to the coroner.
"Although the investigation remains ongoing and further work needs to be done today, we believe he was one of several people who had climbed out of a window on to a ledge on the roof of the flat.
"Some people were having a cigarette and it is from this roof that he has fallen. What caused his fall is yet to be established and we are treating his death as unexplained.
"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this tragic time."
