Wirral blaze teenage girl rescued from window ledge

A 13-year-old girl has been rescued by fire crews from the window ledge of a burning house in Merseyside during the early hours.

The teenager had climbed out of a bedroom window of the terraced house on Chapelhill Road, Moreton, Wirral, when fire broke out at 02:00 BST.

Firefighters lifted her back into the bedroom and led her to safety.

She was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for treatment after inhaling smoke and has been detained for observation.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze started in a first floor bathroom. An investigation is under way into the cause.
