Knowsley parliamentary boundaries consultation starts

A public consultation on plans to change local parliamentary constituency boundaries in Knowsley has started.

Proposals by the Borough Commission means that the borough would be split between five constituencies.

Four would overlap into neighbouring councils which some councillors say threaten the area's identity.

The Knowsley seat would disappear and parts of the borough would be covered by three new seats - Maghull, Liverpool North and Huyton and Halewood.

The authority will meet on Wednesday to hear claims that the proposals will have a detrimental effect on the area.

A consultation on the plans runs until 5 December 2011.
