Walton stabbing: Teenager held on suspicion of murder

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death in Liverpool.

Police officers on patrol found the 21-year-old man lying in County Road, Walton at about 03:30 BST.

He had serious stab wounds to his upper body and was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

An 18-year-old was arrested at a house in nearby Chepstow Road. Officers also recovered a knife from the property, a police spokesman said.

'Family devastated'

Det Supt Ian Kemble, of Merseyside Police, said: "A young man has tragically died and having arrested one person on suspicion of his murder, we are continuing to build up a picture of what has led to the victim's death.

"I would appeal to members of the public who either witnessed the incident itself or have any further information that could help the investigation to contact the police.

"The victim's family have been left devastated by their loss and we are determined to do all we can to see justice done."

The street and house remain cordoned off for police investigation. Both carriageways of County Road are completely closed between Spellow Lane and Hale Road.

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area.
