A man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a mother and daughter in Southport.

Barry Morrow, 51, was a lodger at the house in Fairhaven Road where the bodies of Angela Holgate, 54, and Alice Huyton, 75, were found on Saturday.

Mr Morrow, from Southport, went missing after the bodies were found. A Europe-wide search was launched after he was thought to have been spotted in France.

He was arrested earlier in the UK on suspicion of murdering both women.

Post-mortem examination results showed that Ms Holgate and Mrs Huyton died of asphyxiation and that Ms Holgate died some time before her mother.

On Wednesday, Keith Rennison, of Donald, Race and Newton solicitors, confirmed the firm had been "contacted and instructed to act" for Mr Morrow.
