HMP Liverpool prison officer suspended after cell death

A prison officer has been suspended following the death of a prisoner found hanged at HMP Liverpool.

Damian Martin, 36, was found dead in his cell at 08:00 GMT on Sunday, the Prison Service said.

Allegations of "procedural irregularities" against the officer, who was suspended on Monday, are being investigated, the service said.

It said the death is being investigated by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.
