Lodger in court over Southport murders

A lodger accused of murdering his landlady and her mother in Southport, Merseyside, has appeared in court.

The bodies of Angela Holgate, 54, and 75-year-old Alice Huyton were found at Mrs Holgate's home on 3 December.

Barry Morrow, 51, of Fairhaven Road in Southport, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court by videolink.

Judge Clement Goldstone QC, the honorary recorder of Liverpool, remanded Mr Morrow in custody until 19 March when he is due to enter a plea.

A trial date was initially scheduled for 7 May.
