Leigh woman, 97, injured during robbery
A 97-year-old woman's hip has been broken during a robbery on her doorstep in Greater Manchester.
The victim answered the door of her house just off Leigh Road in Leigh at about 11:30 GMT on Saturday, police said.
A man asked whether she had any change and, as she opened her purse, she was hit at the back of her head and fell. The man took her purse and ran off.
A detective investigating the attack described it as "appalling".
Det Sgt Gary Ashurst from Greater Manchester Police said: "This man has physically attacked a vulnerable member of the community in her own home as she was about to help him out.
"Even the most hardened criminal will be shocked to hear about this."
He asked anyone with information to contact them.
