Birkenhead man hurt in 'vicious attack' returns home

A 37-year-old man attacked by a group of men in a Birkenhead street has been released from hospital.

The man was walking along Singleton Avenue at about 04:40 GMT on Monday when he was assaulted.

He was taken to hospital with damage to his eye and facial injuries. Merseyside Police said it was a "particularly vicious attack".

The man is recovering at home. Police said it was too early to know if he would lose his sight.

Police are studying CCTV footage and have carried out house-to-house inquiries in the area.

Det Ch Insp Dave McCaughrean said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything, no matter how insignificant it might seem in case they have vital information for this investigation."
