Mersey Tunnel reopens after charity cycle race

One of the Mersey tunnels has reopened after it was used for a charity bike race involving 100 cyclists.

The Queensway Tunnel was closed to traffic for five hours for a time trial event called Ten Minutes of Hell in aid of the charity Calder Kids.

The race took riders from Wirral to Liverpool and back. The tunnel reopened at 16:30 GMT on Sunday.

It was the first time the race had been held and organisers said they now hoped to make it an annual event.
