Wirral and Leeds arrests over cash machine theft plans
Police have arrested 14 men suspected of planning thefts of cash machines across Merseyside.
Officers raided properties in Birkenhead, Oxton, Eastham and Wallasey in Wirral and two in Leeds as part of a crackdown on cash machine attacks.
The men were being held for questioning on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary at commercial premises.
Supt Jon Roy said the arrests showed a "commitment to preventing organised groups from carrying out offences".
"We will take robust action against anyone suspected of being involved in organised crime and being an active member of any such crime group," he said.
"No-one should think they are untouchable and beyond the reach of the law.
"Today's activity should go some way to reinforcing that in the minds of criminals and provide some reassurance to our communities."
