Youths on bikes seen at shooting near Kirkby school

A gunman who fired shots outside a primary school on Merseyside was one of four youths riding motorcycles at the scene, police have said.

The teenager fired a single shot at a car as he passed St Lawrence's Primary School on Leeside Avenue, Southdene, Kirkby, at about 15:00 GMT on Friday.

Parents were outside the school waiting for their children but no-one was hurt.

Police are carrying out house-to-house enquiries and looking at CCTV footage from the area.

Knowsley's area commander, Ch Supt Mike Cloherty, is appealing for help from the local community.

"I believe that people in Southdene, Kirkby, know who has done this.

"They will have heard something and even if they didn't witness this incident they will be able to find out information about those four lads on those motorbikes.

"Members of our community could have been killed or seriously injured there."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
