Merseyside Police officer convicted of sex offence

A Merseyside Police officer has been convicted of the sexual grooming of a 15-year-old girl.

PC Simon Ferns, 42, was found guilty following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

The officer, who is suspended from duty, was remanded on bail for sentencing at the court on 20 April.

The charge followed an investigation by the Professional Standards Department managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
