Teenager dies after being hit by car on Formby bypass

A teenage girl has died after being hit by a car on Merseyside.

Police said the 17-year-old was struck by a Ford Focus on the Formby Bypass at about 02:30 BST. She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The A565 was partially closed while investigators examined the scene, but has since been fully reopened.

Merseyside Police said an investigation was under way and a driver was helping with their inquiries.

Officers have described the girl as white, 5ft 6in tall, wearing a brown leather jacket and carrying a bag, and have appealed to anyone who may have seen her before the collision to come forward.
