A 10-week-old puppy has been stolen during a burglary at a home in Merseyside.

Alfie, a Rhodesian ridgeback, was taken from a house in Litchfield Road, Crosby, at about 05:00 BST on Monday. Money and documents were also stolen.

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to who appears to be carrying a dog.

He was seen getting into a black cab at 05:45. Police are keen to speak to the taxi driver.

The man hailed a hackney cab on Crosby Road North and travelled in the direction of Bootle and Liverpool.

He is described as white, between 20 and 26 years old, 5ft 8in tall with short light brown or blonde hair, receding at the sides. He was wearing a black jacket, black trousers and dark trainers with red laces.

The puppy was a birthday present and police said the owners are "distraught... and are very concerned for his welfare".

The dog is tan in colour, with a distinctive dark line of short hair running along its back.

A 26-year-old man from Bootle was arrested in relation to this incident, and has been bailed by police pending further inquiries.
