Siblings aged six and eight hurt in New Brighton crash

A six-year-old boy and his eight-year-old sister were seriously injured when they were hit by a car as they crossed a road in Wirral.

The children were crossing Marine Promenade in New Brighton near Fort Perch Rock when it happened at about 14:00 BST on Sunday.

Both were taken to hospital where the boy is critical with a head injury and his sister has a fractured leg.

The 65-year-old driver has been helping police with their inquiries.

Their mother, who was with them at the time of the accident, is with them at Alder Hey children's hospital.

Police are appealing for motorists and pedestrians who were in the area to contact them if they saw what happened.
