Bootle attack leaves man with 'life-changing injuries'

Eight people have been arrested after a Liverpool man was left with "life-changing injuries" following an attack.

Merseyside Police went to Westminster Road, Bootle, on Wednesday afternoon to reports of an injured man.

A force spokeswoman said the man had been treated in hospital for "injuries to his hand, arm, head and back" and was in a serious condition.

The eight men, aged 27, 20, 25, 22, 26, 44, 25 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

The men are all from the Kirkdale area of the city. A 17-year-old from Bootle has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

'More out there'

Det Insp Jon Smith said the arrests were as a result of "a large-scale incident in broad daylight, during which a man received life-changing injuries".

"We have spoken to people in the area, but I am sure that there are more out there that may have witnessed this incident or have information."

"We believe that the altercation involved a number of men and I want to reassure residents that we have already made arrests, but we are determined to find everyone who was involved and put them before the courts.

He added that Merseyside Police had "an increased presence in the area" following the attack.
