Man, 22, arrested for attempted murder over Bootle attack

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a violent attack left a Liverpool man with "life-changing injuries".

The 25-year-old, of Kirkdale, suffered multiple injuries caused by a bladed weapon in the attack on Westminster Road, Bootle, on Wednesday.

Nine males, aged 13 to 44, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder over the attack.

A 17-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police said the attack, which took place in broad daylight, happened during an altercation involving a number of men.

Det Insp Jon Smith said officers were "determined to find everyone who was involved and put them before the courts".

The Merseyside force has "an increased presence in the area" following the attack.

The victim is being treated in hospital for serious injuries to his hand, arm, head and back.

All those arrested, apart from the 22-year-old being held on suspicion of attempted murder, have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
