Man jailed for stealing Liverpool poppy collection box
A man has been jailed after admitting stealing a Royal British Legion poppy collection box from a Liverpool store.
Alex Maloney, from Westminster Avenue, Bootle, was given a 32-week sentence for the incident at a Londis in St John's Road, Waterloo on 13 November.
It was reported to police the following day after the shopkeeper noticed the charity container had gone missing.
The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to the theft at South Sefton Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Police said the public response over the incident showed the crime "upset and disgusted many residents".
