Liverpool hardware store Rapid calls in administrators

Rapid hardware store Rapid moved to new premises on Basnett Street in 2009, leaving its original store on Renshaw Street

Administrators have been brought into a Liverpool hardware store which has traded in the city for over 40 years.

Rapid, which employs around 90 people, has been placed in the hands of administrators Duff and Phelps.

Director of Group Services Liz Jenkins said she was "devastated" for staff but that meetings were under way to establish what would happen next.

Rapid has been run by managing director Martin Doherty and his family since it opened in 1971.

It moved into the former George Henry Lee building on Basnett Street in the heart of the city's retail district three years ago, leaving its original premises on Renshaw Street.
