Mother and daughter killed in Merseyside by blow to head

A woman and her daughter found murdered at a house in Merseyside were killed by a blow to the head, police confirmed.

The bodies of Sharon Hayter, 55, and Stephanie Owen, 29, were found at the property in Home Farm Road, Knowsley village, on Thursday afternoon.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of both deaths was blunt force trauma to the head.

A 55-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody being questioned by detectives.

Relatives paid tribute to the "devoted" mother - who taught information technology to children with learning difficulties as a volunteer - and "loving" daughter.

In a statement they said: "Sharon was a devoted, loving, caring mother and sister.

"She was extremely proud of her daughter Stephanie and was devoted to her.

"Stephanie was a loving daughter who loved singing and playing music.

"We would ask that we are now allowed some space and time to try and come to terms with the tragic loss of our much-loved Sharon and Stephanie.

"They will be sadly missed."
