Police dog handler suffers cut head after being struck

A police dog handler has been hit over the head with a weapon following a disturbance in West Derby.

The female officer suffered a cut to her head after she was called to flats at Barnfield Drive at 22:00 GMT on Tuesday .

Merseyside Police said the weapon was believed to be a knife or a gun.

Two people, a 37-year-old man and 42-year-old woman from West Derby, were arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation.

The dog handler was taken to hospital for treatment to her cut head, which is described as "not serious".
