Rock Ferry stabbing: Man denies murder of James Byrne, 38

A 47-year-old man has denied carrying out a knife attack on a Merseyside street in which a man died.

James Byrne, 38, from Birkenhead, was found at the junction of Old Chester Road and Well Lane in Rock Ferry on 22 September. He later died in hospital.

Denis O'Neill, of Old Chester Road, Rock Ferry, pleaded not guilty to murder at Liverpool Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to stand trial at Liverpool Crown Court on 19 March.

A 45-year-old man, Steven Johnson, also of Old Chester Road, Rock Ferry, has denied a charge of perverting the course of justice in relation to the death.

He will go on trial with Mr O'Neill on 19 March.
