Man dies in Liverpool flat fire

A man in his 40s has died after a fire at a flat in Liverpool, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has said.

The fire, which took two hours to extinguish, broke out at about 01:30 GMT on Rocky Lane in Tuebrook.

The man was taken to hospital after being found unconscious inside the property. He died a short time later.

The man has been identified and his next of kin are being informed. An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.

    A Liverpool fan who survived the Hillsborough disaster has described watching as a police officer tried to push his brother back into the crush.

    Terence Mills was at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final with his brother George, who was trying to escape from pen four.

    Stephen Ellis, Sheffield Wednesday's photographer, said police stopped fans climbing over the front of the pens.

    Both men gave evidence on Monday at the new inquests into the disaster, held in Warrington.
