Liverpool hospitals top clinical trials table
Three hospitals in Liverpool have together recruited almost 20,000 volunteers for clinical trials in a year - topping a national table.
The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust worked with 19,392 patients and healthy volunteers over 12 months.
Volunteers also joined trials at Royal Liverpool University Dental Hospital.
Trials included experimental new treatments for eczema and pancreatic cancer, and a new meningitis vaccine.
Prof Robert Sutton, clinical director of research development and innovation, said: "We're always looking for more patients and healthy volunteers to take part in clinical trials to help improve the future of healthcare so we're delighted to see the trust has been recognised.
"We have more than 400 clinical trials running at any one time, in around 40 different departments."
