A couple found dead in a Liverpool property suffered multiple stab wounds, post mortem examinations have revealed.

Paul Brown, 73, and Dorothy Brown, 66, were discovered at an address on Huskisson Street, in Toxteth, on Friday.

A 46-year-old man arrested in connection with the incident has been detained under the Mental Health Act, a Merseyside Police spokesman said.

Their family said they would "both be sorely missed".

In a statement, they said: "Dot, as she was known to friends and family, was glamorous and very creative and really enjoyed painting.

"Paul was a retired electrician and was very witty. He was an extremely loyal person to both friends and family alike."

They added: "Both Dot and Paul adored their children and would do anything for them. This was especially the case when it came to their grandchildren, who they loved very much."
