Raiders ram St Helens Hospital in cash machine theft attempt

Raiders have rammed the entrance of a Merseyside hospital and attempted to steal a cash machine.

Police said offenders tried to force their way into St Helens Hospital at about 23:00 GMT on Friday in one of two vans they were in.

The offenders made off empty-handed, said police.

St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said the main entrance was temporarily out of use but appointments would go ahead as normal.

The trust said all patients and visitors should use the lower ground floor entrances in the meantime.
