A man wanted in connection with the death of PC Neil Doyle following a night out in Liverpool has been arrested in Germany.

Timmy Donovan, 30, who is originally from Huyton, was arrested by German police as he tried to board a plane back to the UK at Dusseldorf Airport.

He has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the off-duty police officer.

PC Doyle died and two other colleagues were injured on a night out in Liverpool city centre on 19 December.

A post-mortem examination revealed he died from bleeding around the brain.

Andrew Taylor, 28, of Cherry Tree Road, and Christopher Spendlove, 30, of Brandearth Hey, both Huyton, have appeared in court charged with murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm.

They are due to go on trial at Liverpool Crown Court later this year.
