More than 1,600 cannabis plants with a street value of £1.5m have been seized at a former Cheshire nightclub.

Officers raided the former Club Wired building on Mersey Street, Warrington, at about 08:00 GMT.

Two men, aged 48 and 34, and two juveniles were arrested and remain in custody.

Inspector Richie Watts of Cheshire Constabulary said the plants would be capable of generating an income of £6m per year in street deals.

He added: "This was a significant find and, fortunately, we have been able to put a stop to it."
