Clock View: £25m mental health hospital opens in Walton
A new £25m mental health hospital has opened in Liverpool.
Clock View in Walton has 80 beds and will provide care for people with mental health issues including dementia, anxiety and depression.
The unit, on Rice Lane, has taken 22 months to complete and was built on the site of the demolished Walton Hospital. About 200 people will work there.
Mersey Care NHS Trust said it hoped the hospital would set new standards for mental health care in the UK.
The hospital, named after the clock tower which overlooks the site, includes garden courtyards, gyms, activity areas and en-suite bedrooms.
Joe Rafferty, chief executive of Mersey Care NHS Trust, said the site was "a beacon that will help tackle the stigma associated with mental ill-health".
Clock View will become fully operational by March.
