Chester scooter rider dies in lamppost crash

A rider has died after his scooter hit a lamppost in Chester city centre.

The 34-year-old, who was on a red Peugeot scooter, collided with the post near the railway bridge on Hoole Road at about 18:30 GMT on Sunday.

He was taken to the Countess of Chester hospital, but died later.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said a white car was seen driving nearby and officers are keen to speak to the driver who could be an "important witness" to the crash.
