Taxi driver held after pedestrian hit in Liverpool

A taxi driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a pedestrian was critically injured in Liverpool.

Emergency services were called to St Anne Street, Everton at about 04:50 BST after reports that a black Hackney taxi had hit a pedestrian.

The man is in hospital with head and chest injuries and his condition is described as critical, police said.

The 33-year-old taxi driver was arrested at the scene.
