Liverpool taxi collision: Man dies in hospital
A pedestrian who was hit and critically injured in a collision with a taxi in Liverpool has died.
John McShane, 49, was reportedly struck by a black Hackney taxi in St Anne Street, Everton, at about 04:50 BST.
He suffered head and chest injuries but later died in hospital, Merseyside Police said.
The 33-year-old driver of the taxi was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and later released on bail.
Police investigating the collision said they are keen to speak to a passing driver who may have seen Mr McShane shortly before he was hit.
A spokesman said: "This particular vehicle travelled along St Anne Street in the direction of Liverpool at 04:44.
"CCTV suggests that this driver may have clearly been aware of the pedestrian crossing the road."
