Man stabbed in Bootle race hate attack

A man has been stabbed in what police have described as an unprovoked race hate attack in Merseyside.

The 24-year-old was walking through South Park in Bootle on Saturday night when he was assaulted and verbally abused by a gang of youths.

He managed to escape and call emergency services, before being taken to hospital.

Merseyside Police said he was receiving treatment for facial injuries and a stab wound.

Detectives from the force's specialist hate crime team are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The man's condition was not thought to be life-threatening.
