Council reveals monthly spending in Cambridgeshire

Cambridgeshire County Council has started publishing details of all its spending of more than £500 ahead of the government deadline of January 2011.

The council said it had taken the step early to show its commitment to openness.

This month it has released figures for August and July and monthly updates will follow.

The lists include everything from expenditure on consultants and nursing staff to the cost of buying milk.

County councillor John Reynolds, cabinet member for resources, said: "We are committed to being as transparent and accountable as possible.

"We were one of the first authorities to publish details about our senior management pay and I am pleased that we are in the first group of councils to put this information about spending over £500 on line.

"We have a good national record for managing finances and we were eager not only to publish this long before the Government's deadline of January."
