Police quash sex attack 'rumours' in Hemel Hempstead

Police claim there is no truth in "frightening" text messages being sent to women warning them of sex attacks on children in a Hertfordshire town.

Since May, officers have investigated incidents in Hemel Hempstead in which girls aged seven to 12 have been approached by a man.

He exposed himself on some occasions and physically assaulted two children.

Ch Insp Mike Bryce said claims made in the texts that the children were sexually attacked are false.

"I would like to reassure the people of Hemel Hempstead that the text messages are incorrect and misleading.

"The information contained in the text message is inaccurate, frightening and is not assisting us with our investigation.

"We have a dedicated team of officers and detectives making numerous inquiries to identify and apprehend the offender, or offenders.

"We are also giving safety advice to young people through the local schools."
