Object thrown on to van on A12 in Gorleston

A driver had a "lucky escape" when an object thrown from an overpass on the A12 in Gorleston hit the windscreen of a van, police said.

The object was thrown from the Middleton Road flyover on to a Peugeot Expert being driven along the A12 bypass towards Great Yarmouth.

The incident happened at about 1920 GMT on Wednesday. The vehicle was being driven by a man in his 50s.

The item hit the van causing a large crack in the windscreen, said police.

Two people were seen standing on the flyover when the object was thrown onto the road.

Ch Insp Stuart Armes said: "An item striking and damaging a vehicle can be an extremely dangerous and frightening situation for the driver and passengers.

"Throwing objects off bridges or overpasses onto roads is highly irresponsible and puts people at great risk."
