The screen offers round-the-clock news, information and entertainment on a 25ft² digital video display.

It is connected to the BBC's global broadcast network and delivers a 24-hour schedule of news, sport, music, documentaries and much more.

The Big Screen regularly hosts programmes of major sporting fixtures including Formula 1, the RBS Six Nations rugby tournament, Wimbledon and the World Snooker Championship.

Also keep an eye out for films made by students from Norfolk.

Community content

The Norwich Big Screen opened in July 2008 and has hosted lots of events since then.

The screen broadcasts news and content made by the local community including animations, photography, films and interactive games.

In June 2010, Norwich City Council collaborated with The Royal Opera House to bring Bizet's Carmen live to the Big Screen.

To mark the countdown to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Big Screen hosted a Cultural Olympiad Open Weekend in July 2010 with tribal belly dancing, martial arts demonstrations, capoeira and an urban triathlon.

The screen has also shown special midweek seated movies during the summer holidays.

All events are free and many more locally organised activities are planned for 2011.

The screen is a public platform for both local and national talent. If you'd like more information about how to show your work on the screen please send us an e-mail.

The Big Screen is a partnership between LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games), Norwich City Council, the BBC and Chapelfield.
