Plans dropped for quarry in Marlingford, near Norwich

Plans to build a quarry in the Norfolk village of Marlingford have been dropped by landowner the Lombe Estate Trust.

It had been proposed that at least 735,000 tonnes of sand and gravel be extracted over 50 acres near Norwich.

Locals have been campaigning against the plans for almost two years.

Joe Pattinson, from the Stop the Marlingford Quarry group, said: "It's positive - we think they decided this one just wasn't going to go ahead."

Representatives from the Lombe Estate Trust said no comment would be made on the reasons for the withdrawal of the proposals.
