The restored war memorial and gardens in Norwich have been short listed for a prestigious national award from the Royal Town Planning Institute.

The £2.6m restoration project began on the listed memorial and gardens in 2009 and the project with a new sculpture was formally opened on 16 March 2011.

"The war memorial and gardens are a credit to our city," Brenda Arthur, leader of Norwich City Council, said.

"Whether or not we win, we and future generations can be very proud of them."

The awards ceremony will be held in February 2012.

Money for the restoration of the war memorial and gardens came from the Homes and Communities Agency, which has already invested £8m in Norwich.
