Prince Charles has become a patron of a Norfolk church's fundraising appeal.

St Peter and Paul's Church in Walpole St Peter needs to raise £45,000 to replace parts of its roof by next summer.

The Prince of Wales regularly visits the large medieval church and has made an undisclosed donation to the project.

Church warden Michael Anstey said: "We're very fortunate that we've secured the patronage of Prince Charles for our fundraising efforts."

He added: "It's one of his favourite churches."

The church needs to replace its oak beams and the lead roof, which is 190 years old and needs to be recast and relaid to stop rain getting in.

It is estimated the repairs will cost about £220,000 in total, with English Heritage funding around half of the work.

The building is known as the Queen of the Marshlands which is near the royals' Sandringham estate.
