Fire at Broadland Hams food factory in Norwich

Firefighters will work into the night to extinguish fully a blaze that broke out at a food factory in Norwich, the fire service has said.

Staff were evacuated and surrounding roads closed after the fire started in the early afternoon at Broadland Hams, on the Sweet Briar Road Industrial Estate.

More than 50 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze.

One person was treated for the effects of breathing in smoke.

Smoke from the fire also caused poor visibility on the nearby A140.

It remains open, but police are asking drivers around the area to be cautious and patient.

The main road into the industrial estate has been closed.

Staff from other businesses around Broadland Hams were also evacuated soon after the fire began shortly before 14:00 GMT.

It is not yet known what started the blaze.

Richard Herrell, group manager from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, said the "very challenging fire" posed no further risk to life and would take several hours for crews to put out fully.
