Off-duty police officer quizzed over Norfolk pub death

An off-duty police officer was one of two men arrested after a man in his 20s died following an incident outside a Norfolk pub, police confirmed.

Police were called to Mardle Road, in Toft Monks, Norfolk, at 03:15 GMT on New Year's Day following reports of a "disturbance" near the White Lion.

Lee Goldsmith, 23, of Toft Monks, was taken to hospital where he later died.

The off-duty Norfolk officer, aged 38, and a 45-year-old were arrested at the scene and have since been bailed.

The death continues to be treated as "unexplained" after a post-mortem examination on Sunday afternoon, and detectives are awaiting the outcome of further tests.

Police confirmed the arrested off-duty officer works for the Norfolk force.

The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) and the officer suspended pending the outcome of inquiries.
