Great Yarmouth woman denies neighbour's murder

An 18-year-old woman from Great Yarmouth has denied murdering her neighbour after she had fought with his girlfriend.

Shane Boulton, 21, of Stanley Terrace, died from a stab wound after he was attacked on 19 June 2011.

Katy Bown, who can now be named after reporting restrictions were lifted, appeared before Norwich Crown Court.

The court heard there was no dispute that Miss Bown killed Mr Boulton, but murder was denied.

John Farmer QC, prosecuting, told of an argument in the street between Miss Bown and Mr Boulton's girlfriend Claire Matheson and how Mr Boulton, who had been drinking, went outside to separate them.

'Fight was over'

The fight ended and Mr Boulton stayed outside talking to a neighbour.

And Miss Bown went round the corner, back to her home three doors away.

Mr Farmer said: "There was no better indication that the fight was over because she had been able to go home voluntarily and in to her own home.

"That should have been the end of it. It was not, because the defendant went into her home to equip herself with that knife.

"He was not even looking in the direction from where the defendant came and as he turned, in went the knife."

The court was told that after she stabbed Mr Boulton, Miss Bown went to see a neighbour who threw the knife in a wheelie bin, and then went to another neighbour's house where her young child was being looked after.

After taking her child back home Miss Bown was arrested and taken into custody.

The court hearing was adjourned until Thursday to allow jurors to visit the scene of the crime.
