Officer stabbed in arrest scuffle near Norwich city centre
A police officer trying to arrest a man suspected of murder has suffered stab wounds in a scuffle while attempting to restrain him.
The incident happened in the early hours in Norwich.
A 23-year-old man was arrested in Thomas Wyatt Close, a road on the site of the former Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, close to the city centre.
"The man was detained following the incident at 04:45 GMT," a police spokesman said.
"During attempts to arrest the offender, a male police officer received knife wounds to his hand," the spokesman said.
"He was taken to hospital for treatment and is expected to be released later in the day.
"The local man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody," he added.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
