A man has escaped from custody at a crown court in Norfolk, police have said.

Arfath Ali, 28, was due to appear at Norwich Crown Court after being charged with assault.

He fled the court at about 15:15 BST on Tuesday. Police have only just released details of the escape.

Mr Ali was wearing dark jeans and a blue jumper when he disappeared. Police said he has links in the Norwich and London areas.

A Norfolk police spokesman said: "Police would recommend that he is not approached and that members of the public with any information about his whereabouts contact officers as soon as possible."

The force is yet to comment on the circumstances that led to the escape.

Mr Ali is described as 5ft 4in, of slim build and clean shaven.
