Bury St Edmunds flat fire treated as suspicious

Two people were rescued from a "suspicious" fire in a flat in Suffolk.

A man in a ground-floor flat in Ipswich Court, Bury St Edmunds, woke to the smell of smoke and found his curtains on fire shortly before 01:00 BST.

Suffolk Police said the man had been sleeping with the window open and the fire was being treated as suspected arson.

The force has appealed for witnesses. Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said four flats in the block were evacuated.

Two fire crews from Bury St Edmunds had the incident under control within 40 minutes.

Three people were treated for smoke inhalation but no-one was seriously hurt, police said.
