East Runton historic ammunition hoard: Antony Leake fined

A man has been fined and given a suspended jail term after police found a hoard of historic ammunition at his Norfolk home.

Bomb disposal experts sealed off Antony Leake's home on Thains Lane, East Runton, last July following the find.

Leake, 63, was fined £600 at Norwich Crown Court and received a nine-month sentence, suspended for 18 months.

He pleaded guilty to possessing a shotgun and two counts of possessing ammunition without a certificate.

Leake had faced a further allegation of possessing a firearm without a certificate but the charge was dropped after he pleaded not guilty.

Officers found the gun and a "large quantity" of ammunition, much of it historic, after searching Leake's house.

The property was sealed off for several hours while it was made safe.
