Fakenham children's day care centre closes

A children's day care centre in Norfolk has closed suddenly after "an incident", Ofsted has said.

The day care service at Fakenham Gateway Sure Start Children's Centre, which cares for children as young as six weeks, closed on Tuesday morning.

Yvonne Parker-Beeson, headteacher of Fakenham Infant and Nursery School, the centre's governing body, said the day centre was closed "voluntarily".

She said there was a "number of issues concerning the running of the service".

The infant and nursery school remains open.

Ms Parker-Beeson said: "The decision to close Fakenham Gateway Sure Start Children's Centre Day Care temporarily was taken voluntarily by the board of governors.

"The closure will allow us to carry out a thorough review of our practice."

She said Norfolk County Council was helping families to find alternative childcare.

"Our focus continues to be the well-being of every child in our setting," she said.

Ofsted said it was investigating what had happened.
